Russia’s Childrens’ Prison Camps
There are 64 prison camps across Russia, housing 18,000 boys between the ages of (officially) 13 and 18 years of age. Honestly, some of them appear as young as 10 or 11. There are also prison camps for girls. These are not reform schools, but medium to maximum security facilities with all the trimmings. The conditions that these kids live in vary from tolerable to sub-human; especially in other Russian speaking nations such as Kyrgystan, which also inherited this legacy of the Soviet Union. This podcast tells a small part of the story of some of the most forgotten children in the world.
International Russian Radio and Television provides humanitarian aid and spirtual counseling to these children on an on-going basis in co-operation with local Russian protestant churches.
